FAQs / Loss and Damage
Airline Liability
If you opt to not take out Loss and Damage cover through a 3rd party,
any claims that you submit will be subject to the Warsaw Convention.
This convention governs the maximum liability for all airlines and is
limited to US$20.00 per gross kilogram. There are two important facts
that you should be aware of with regards to the standard liability offered
by airlines:
1) Given that this liability is based on gross weight, you are unlikely
to receive adequate compensation for high value items which do not
weigh very much. For example, a pair of running shoes might be worth
US$150, but as they weigh about 1 kilo – you would only receive
US$20 as compensation from the airlines in the event of loss or damage.
2) The liability offered by the airlines, only covers you from the moment
we hand your shipment to them, to the time you collect it from them at
your airport of destination. Therefore, To-Door shipments are not covered
from the airport of destination to the delivery address.
Loss and/or damage is rare – provided that items are packed well
in strong, double walled strength cartons which are securely sealed.
In the event that the outer packaging of your shipment has been damaged
or removed it is extremely important that you check the contents for
missing items. If you sign for a clean receipt of your shipment, the
airline will be immediately released from its liability. In the event
of loss or damage, you should notify the carrier concerned and us in
writing.
UBI Worldwide & U-bag, like most major airlines
and transportation companies, do not accept the following typres of
damage: broken wheels or feet, lost pull straps, damage to oversized
bags, or damage to luggage handles.
